Is Menopause Our Superpower?

What if menopause isn’t the end of something?
What if it’s the beginning?
We hear plenty about the hot flashes, sleepless nights, mood swings, weight changes, brain fog, and the million other things our bodies decide to surprise us with. And yes, some days menopause can feel like our bodies have completely lost their minds.
But I’ve been thinking…
Is menopause actually our superpower?
Maybe it is.
Because somewhere in the middle of all these changes, something else starts happening.
We start changing too.
Not just physically. Mentally. Emotionally. In the way we see ourselves, our relationships, our careers, and the life we still want to live.
For years, many of us followed the path that was in front of us. We worked. We raised families. We built careers. We showed up. We worried about what people thought. We said yes when we wanted to say no. We stayed in places longer than we should have. We questioned ourselves when maybe we should have been questioning the situation.
And then menopause shows up and suddenly something shifts.
Our tolerance for nonsense gets a whole lot smaller.
Maybe that’s the superpower.
We Start Asking Different Questions
Instead of asking:
What will people think?
We start asking:
What do I think?
Instead of:
Am I too old to start over?
We ask:
Why not now?
Instead of:
What if I fail?
We begin wondering:
What if I actually do it?
There is something incredibly freeing about reaching this stage of life and realizing we don't have to keep living according to an old version of ourselves.
We can change our minds.
We can change careers.
We can start businesses.
We can write the book.
We can travel.
We can walk away from relationships or rooms where we no longer belong.
We can make new friends.
We can take care of our bodies differently.
We can finally figure out what makes us happy.
And we don't need permission.
Maybe Menopause Is Our Wake-Up Call
Our bodies are changing whether we like it or not.
So maybe this is our opportunity to change some other things too.
Maybe menopause is life tapping us on the shoulder and saying:
Hey. You're still here. What are you going to do with the rest of it?
That's a powerful question.
Because there is still so much life ahead of us.
This isn't the chapter where we disappear.
This might be the chapter where we finally show up as ourselves.
Not someone's wife.
Not someone's mother.
Not someone's employee.
Not the woman everyone expects us to be.
Us.
Who are you now?
What do you want?
What have you been putting off?
What have you outgrown?
And what would happen if you stopped waiting for the perfect time and simply began?
Welcome to the Next Journey
I'm starting to believe menopause isn't here to take our power away.
Maybe it's here to remind us that we have it.
Our bodies may be changing. Our priorities may be changing. Our patience may definitely be changing.
But maybe that's exactly what we needed.
Because this stage of life isn't about becoming who we used to be.
It's about discovering who we're becoming.
So yes.
Maybe menopause is our superpower.
Not because it's easy.
But because it gives us an opportunity to stop, look at our lives, and decide what comes next.
And this time?
We get to choose.
It’s not a midlife crisis.
It’s a midlife choice.
